[griechisch] das, -s/...ri |en, in der Hymnodie der orthodoxen Kirche ein in der Regel monostrophiger Kurzhymnus, der der Erläuterung des Tagesgedächtnisses dient und stets einen Schluss in Gebetsform aufweist. Nach dem Vorbild der synagogalen Poesie wurden die Troparien zwischen die Verse der biblischen Oden oder der Psalmen eingeschaltet und später zu den Stichera weiterentwickelt. Die ältesten Troparien stammen aus dem 5. Jahrhundert und sind Vorläufer der späteren Form des Kontakions. Nach Inhalt beziehungsweise Funktion unterscheidet man etwa 30 Arten, z. B. Anastasimon (»Auferstehungsgesang«), Apolytikion (»Schlussgesang«), Triadikon (»Gesang zu Ehren der Trinität«), Theotokion.
